As we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the founding of the Osservatorio Geologico di Coldigioco, there are exciting new developments to report. Thanks to Sandro and Paula’s persistence and with the help of their financial advisor Meri Pastori, an Italian non-profit organization named the Associazione “Le Montagne di San Francesco” (LMDSF) was established on June 8, 2012. According to its by-laws, the Association has “the exclusive aim of promoting culture in general and, in particular, in the fields of science and art.” It also aims “to continue the interdisciplinary research and teaching conducted at the Geological Observatory of Coldigioco for the last two decades”.
The organizing Board of Directors are Sandro Montanari, President; Paula Metallo, Vice President; and Rodolfo Coccioni, Secretary. This means that we can now raise money through membership fees and donations to continue the important science, art, research, and education that Coldigioco has been producing since 1992. These funds can be used to maintain and upgrade the infrastructure of Coldigioco, making it possible to continue to offer opportunities for education and research. We have already purchased a new 9 passenger van (Beneducato) with a donation to the Association.
